This tour will give you the most amazing experience traveling deeply in the jungle of Peru, begins with a Lima city tour, then flight to Cuzco, the historic capital of the sun-worshiping Inca empire, and ending with a tour of the majestic peruvian manu jungle.
ITINERARY
Lima - Cusco – Manu (Cloud Forest + Atalaya + Manu River + Lake Salvador + Lake Otorongo + Boca Manu) – Lima (City Tour)
Day 1.../LIMA
Reception and transfer from the airport to your hotel.
Day 2 Lima/Cusco
Early drop off to the airport to take your flight Lima/Cusco. Upon arrival reception and transfer to your hotel.
DAY 3 Cusco/Cloud Forest
Leaving Cusco early in the morning, we begin an 8-hour journey through the Andes by bus, stopping for a coffee in the beautiful colonial village of Paucartambo. Continuing on, we will climb to the highpoint of the Manu Biosphere situated at about 3,530 m, before descending to the cloud forest. In these mystical surroundings we will hike to the mating arena of the incredible Cock-of-the-Rock, the national bird of Peru, to witness the performance of the males right before our eyes. We will spend our first night in the rustic lodge, Posada San Pedro (appr. 1,600 m).
DAY 4 Cloud Forest/Atalaya/Manu River
At daybreak we will continue by bus to tropical lowland rainforest. Here in the small village of Atalaya at 650 m, we will transfer to a motorized canoe to navigate approximately 5 hours down the Alto Madre de Dios River to Boca Manu. We will stay the night in a rustic lodge, or camp next to the lodge.
DAY 5 & 6 Lake Salvador and Lake Otorongo
In the morning we will turn up the Manu River for a 6 hour ride into the heart of Manu’s Jungle Reserve. From this vantage point we will have great views of river birds, sunbathing caiman, and the world’s largest rodent, the capybara. We will reach our camping huts deep in jungle in the afternoon. This will be our base for the next two days. During this time, we will hike through virgin forest and explore one of the most beautiful lakes of the Manu basin, Lake Salvador, by catamaran. This is a chance to see a huge variety of colourful birds, numerous species of monkey and with luck, a family of giant otters. We will also do a trek in this ecologically-rich forest that will end in Lake Otorongo and a 20 metre-high observation platform overlooking the lake. At night, it is possible to explore the forest by torchlight or go caiman-spotting by moonlight on the lake.
DAY 7 Lake Salvador/Boca Manu
After a final walk through the forest surrounding Lake Salvador (flight schedule permitting), we will return back down the Manu River. From Boca Manu, you will return mid-day to Cusco via a small plane.
Day 8 Cusco/Lima
Early drop off at Cusco airport to board your flight back to Lima. Upon arrival, you will be received and transfered to your hotel. In the afternoon you will receive a guided city tour of Lima, visiting its colonial and modern sights. This tour includes a ride to see LIMA’S COLONIAL CHURCHES AND PALACES, SAN MARTIN SQUARE, THE MAIN SQUARE, THE CATHEDRAL, THE GOVERNMENT PALACE and SAN FRANCISCO CHURCH, among others. Lima’s residential areas will also be visited. Among them, SAN ISIDRO with its OLIVE GROVE, MIRAFLORES with its CENTRAL PARK. You will also enjoy a pleasant ride along the COSTA VERDE, where you can take in the view of the Lima coastline.
Day 9 Lima/…
Transfer to Jorge Chávez airport to board your international flight.
