This is an expedition of four days and three nights. The most direct route to visit the famous and beautiful but remote archaeological site of CHOQUEQUIRAO is getting trough the village of Cachora. This place was visited by Hiram Bingham two years before than Machupicchu, this is an unforgettable expedition. We will be able to descend to the Apurimac canyon and see the condor’s fly and Pedrayoc snowed. This part of the region is high forest and it has a temperature until 28°C, beautiful flora and fauna.
ITINERARY:
Cuzco - Cachora - Playa Rosalinas - Choquequirao - Cocamasana - Santa Rosa - Chikiscca - Cachora
DAY 1: CUZCO - CACHORA.
Pick up from airport or from your hotel in Cusco and transfer to Cachora, where the trek begins.
Possibly visit of the archaeological site of Sayhuite. We have to walk down until the bridge that crosses the Apurimac canyon but we will descend about 1600 meters.
The camp site is near the bridge, called playa Rosalina, or 1 hour before in Chiquiska. Explanation of the guide, lunch, dinner and camping, magnify view of Pedrayoc snowed.
DAY 2: PLAYA ROSALINAS - CHOQUEQUIRAO
Breakfast up to your preferences. After crossing the bridge, you have to climb to the ruins; the first 3 hours will be very hard! But the views are spectacular! Arriving at noon approximately, have lunch.
In the afternoon guided tour of the archaeological site in Choquequirao.Deep down is the canyon and there can be condors around and we can see also the Ampay snowed.
DAY 3: CHOQUEQUIRAO - COCAMASANA
Take your time to visit the place! We continuous the expedition until Santa Rosa, place where we can appreciate the transformation of cane plantation. We descend to Apurimac river and then ascend to Cocamasana view point, breakfast, lunch and camping.
DAY 4: SANTA ROSA - CHIKISCCA
Walk into the Apurimac valley; here you can have a “Cambray” (alcoholic drink made of sugarcane) in Santa Rosa. Then we will cross the Apurimac river. We will camp here in the Rosalina beach or an hour late in Chikiscca.
DAY 5: CHIKISCCA - CACHORA
This day we translate to Cachora town, place where we finish our trek.
After the last climb our private buses are waiting for you to bring you back to Cusco, arriving approximately 6 or 7 in the evening.Breakfast and lunch.
