In June (winter solstice)
the sun was going away, the cold increased, at dawn the water froze,
therefore, had to ask the Sun return, which at twilight it would not
continue to advance north. Finally, it was necessary to attest to the
god Inti, eternity and dedication of its children, with submission and
respect.
More than six centuries, the Inca Pachakuteq instituted
the Sun God Festival today still represent the Incas, the Inti Raymi
with the same fervor with which their ancestors performed in the
splendid times of the Incas.
Inti Raymi, contemporary version
is made from June 24 1944 when the festivities were instituted in the
city in memory of their ancient origin and cradle of the Inca Great
Civilization.
On June 24, the festival honoring the Sun
God, is performed in the presence of the Inca, the Willaq Uma High
Priest, Tarpuntay, Wirapirikuq and Kallparikuy, like the nobles and
representatives of the panacas, for which uses three historical
settings and breathtaking natural
Qorikancha (Purse gold):
the main temple dedicated to the Sun in Cusco, where they say was the
golden garden (here performed the first ritual of worship and Apu Inti
Pacha Mama, where were buried large offerings, which found evidence in
1972 in the Museo Garcilaso INC).
The Plaza Mayor (or
Plaza Auqaypata former Warrior): In Inca times, this vast square in
full unfolded amid great ceremony ushnu (ceremonial platform).
Saqsaywaman
(voice derives from the Quechua terms "saqsay" and "waman", which
translated into Spanish means "falcon sated"). It is located at 3.555
meters, one kilometer from the Inca Qollqanpata neighborhood. It was
the Royal House of the Sun and temple dedicated to Ray, according to
Garcilaso. Here since 1944 has held the central part of the Inti Raymi
contemporary with an impressive crowd.
