VISAS
Find if you need a visa for coming to LA.
for less than 90 days.
It is not required; with a valid passport is enough to enter to the country.
Government in Peru normally gives you a 90 day stay inside the country.
At the moment you enter to the country you will received a migration card,
do not lose it, it is required for leaving the country.
If you lose the form, do not worry to much the only thing
you will lose is your time for replacing it.
Stays for more than 90 days.
There are two ways of doing this:
1. Go to the Department of Immigration in either Lima or Cusco.
The cost is $25 per extension of 30 days. A maximum of 3 extensions is permissible.
Prepare yourself for a bit of a long drawn out renewal process particularly in Cusco.
2. Leave the country for at least 2 days (to Bolivia, Chile or Ecuador)
and return to obtain another 90 day stay for free.
This process can be repeated as many times as the border
control officials still believe you are a tourist.
Passport and documents.
Avoid carrying always your passport;
try to get always a photocopy of your documents
while the originals are at your hotel.
Only carry your passport when you are traveling between cities because
you maybe will need it for some inspections.
It is also recommended you to take care of your travelers cheques and credit cards,
sometimes is good to have a note of them together with the contacts phone numbers for emergencies.

PACKING LIST
The following information is a suggestion of the things you should consider to
carry with you if you are planning to travel to Peru or South America.
You could take this packing list as a reference for you to do your baggage
and to not forget anything.
Travel lightly! Each participant must be able to carry his or her own luggage.
We recommend you aim for 35-40 lbs. maximum.
Consider the weather and environment of Peru:
We will be covering a variety of elevations and climates,
so we will ask that you bring a wide variety of clothes.
If your group travels to warmer climates,
we will be able to store "high altitude" clothing, and vice versa.
COMMUNICATION/PHONE CARDS:
There will be opportunities to call home and a few opportunities to e-mail.
Please DO NOT brings calling cards from the U.S.
and expects to be able to use them in Peru.
The cheapest and most effective way to call home from Peru is to use the local
telephone kiosks, and to pay at the end of the call.
